A crypto scam in Hong Kong’s Mong Kok area saw a victim exchange HK$3.11 million in USDT for counterfeit HK$1,000 banknotes. Scammers used genuine banknotes to disguise the fake ones, which closely resemble real currency but are marked as “practice coupon.” Authorities seized 10,978 forged notes and arrested the perpetrators, who face up to 14 years in prison if convicted. This incident is part of a recent surge in similar crypto scams, with police also seizing HK$2.55 million in fake notes from related schemes.
